Kindergarten News

This Friday is “Blessing of the Animals”. Please meet out front next to the picnic tables with your pet in the morning.  If you're unable to bring your pet, you may bring a picture of your pet or a picture of a relative’s or friend’s pet to be blessed.  Participation is completely optional, but the entire school will gather in front of the school to share in the festivities. All pets should be on a leash or in a pet carrier. All pets must go home after the blessing
. Parents, please stay with your child and pet. If your child does not have a pet, and you do not have time to join us, please find one of us and let us know that your child is not with a parent so that we may have all children accounted for outside. Please leave your child’s book bag outside on the breezeway, the building will be locked until after the ceremony.

It is time for Pirate Day!  All mates report to class on Friday dressed in ye pirate garb! (optional) .   Also, don’t forget to leave yer weapons on ye ship at home and prepare for a day of swashbuckling adventures!
Kindergarten Service Project
This year the kindergarten class has decided to take on two service projects.  The first project will be for childhood cancer.  Unfortunately, our class has been touched by this dreadful disease.  Ketren was diagnosed as a toddler with leukemia and had to undergo months of treatment.  Today Ketren is cancer free and is a healthy kindergartener. We are so blessed to have Ketren as part of our class.  Our second project is going to be raising money for Noah’s Ark Sanctuary.  The children will get a first-hand chance to view the facility and animals on our field trip. Noah’s Ark operates solely on donations. The children have decided to raise money for both of these organizations.  We are going to fill a basket with fun size candy for all SGES students to buy for 50 cents during lunch. Students may also donate money without a purchase. We are going to kick this project off next week, in honor of September being Childhood Cancer Awareness month.  We will collect money up until December and donate to Coins4CURE.  CURE Childhood Cancer is dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through funding targeted research and through support of patients and their families.  From January to March we will collect money for Noah’s Ark Sanctuary. We would appreciate any assistance with our service project.  If each family could donate at least 4 or 5 bags of fun size candy, we should have enough to get us started.  I will use some of the funds to buy more bags before the Halloween candy sales end. The children are very excited.  Thanks for all
you do and your support!

Pirate Day
Arg….….
Pirate Day has been changed to Friday, Sept. 18th.  Due to several of our Mates who are jumping ship on the 11th!

BUDDY

Last week, we started the tradition of sending home “Buddy” with a classmate. Buddy is a stuffed pig that goes home with a different child each night. The idea behind Buddy is that the child reads Buddy a story at night, or Buddy listens with your child as you read him or her a story. It is just another way of encouraging reading at home. Please be sure your child returns Buddy the following day to school, so that another friend might have the opportunity of taking Buddy home.

Treasure Chest Friday
We had our first Treasure Chest Day on Friday!  The kids had a blast counting their pennies and purchasing prizes!  Please remember that our Treasure Chest   benefits from your donations!  Don’t forget when your cleaning out your closets, your trash maybe treasure to our kindergarteners.
